I have a question about Designate Your Own Drive Letters:

As lots of people seem to have issue with this thought I would post this link Can't believe how easy it was to get this installed and it solved all my drive letter assignment issues for my hard disk mp3 player and other removable devices that were affecting other drive letter assignments to permanent hard disk logical partitions Now everything has the same letter permanently regardless of whether they are plugged in or not! http://sta.c64.org/dlmanip.html

That is unclear. Give an example of what drive letter you mean and what device is plugged and unplugged (whatever that means, USB port?) and what the before and after results are.

Sorry if it was unclear I think though if you read the instructions with this tool 
it will become clear!

Basically without my DAP (iRiver H140) plugged in to USB I have the following drives...

C:   First HD primary partition
D:   Second HD primary partition
E:   First HD secondary partition

With my DAP plugged in but not using DLMANIP I get...

C:   First HD primary partition
D:   Second HD primary partition
E:    DAP
F:   First HD secondary partition


I believe that this is something to do with my DAP drivers but windows sees it as 
a permanent HD rather than a removable disk so it appears amost as though its the 
"third HD primary partition" and thats just the order in which Windows 98 deals with 
things.

So I used DLMANIP and told it to reassign drive letters based on the fact I only 
have TWO permanent hard drives and the upshot is that when my DAP is plugged in the 
driver letters get swapped so I get

C:   First HD primary partition
D:   Second HD primary partition
E:    First HD secondary partition
F:   DAP


which means E: and F: are always the same drives/devices regardless of whether I 
have my DAP connected or not.

it works for me and there are other options to let you move and reassign drive letters 
for different devices.
