System Lockup

Windows 98 SE on HP Pavillion PC. Have a relatively new 3Com Cable Modem attached to a USB Port. Have a Compaq LJ600 Printer on a parallel port. Received a Nomad MP3 Player and tried plugging it into a USB port. Since loading the software, can not have the Cable Modem plugged into the USB or the parallel printer hooked to the parallel port or the system hangs on startup with MSGSRV32 not responding. If I boot the pc with one or the other unplugged then it comes up fine. Ran TrendMicro Housecall on the PC to check for Viruses and nothing showed. Do I need to start with uninstalling the MP3 software? Or could there be a conflict of some sort. Before the MP3 player though the internet would not work via the cable modem if the printer got used.

Uninstall the software and see if everything works correctly. Check the Nomad support sites and check for some third party software and drivers that seem to be better. There have been all kinds of problems, especially earlier versions and some units had a known defect. Google it. There is a lot of info out there..
