Win98se locked up

Win98se froze up. Did a cold restart (as usual in these cases, when ctrl-alt-del
ineffective). Computer now locked up on the very start of roxio GoBack3. Won't restart
in safe mode. What should I do?
Background: Puter been on running for about 24 hrs with a couple apps up I believe.
Thought about a restart, Norton Util launch as I had a
feeling.... Anywho, had a couple web pages, a doc, a folder, Outlook and an Outlook
message running (about 300? ram installed). Wireless
mouse cursor went awol. Tried cntrl-alt-del and escape. No luck. So I punched out.
Usually works. Don't know what to do. Never ran into this. Will I have to restart
with the w98 disc that came with thr computer?
TIA, Jim

I can't deal with the reg because I can't get the computer to boot up in the safe
mode. After the DOS-like page of things like "verifying VMI data pool" and the Micron
brand page, the computer hangs on the start of GoBack3.
So I guess I have to reinstall windows?? Got a link for that? Appreciate your help.

You don't boot to Safe mode to restore a registry back, but why can't you boot to
command prompt?
"Got a link for that?"
Easily found via Google......good luck!

Cause like I said, the computer doesn't boot up. I turn it on, it goes to the manufacturer
screen. At the bottom it says to hit tab to "show post screen." Another choice is
hit delete to enter "set up." Neither works.
Next is the normal DOS-looking BIOs, DMI, CPU etc. info screen for a second, then
to the GoBack, where it freezes. GoBack enters the start up only when I haven't
properly shut down Windows, I believe; I don't pay that much attention.
I think I need to reinstall windows. I think the problem was caused by a power loss/surge
(been having those lately) or a virus (but Norton scans my mail).
