kernel32.dll errors

Thank you in advance for your time and help. I loaded the Route1 new toolbar from the Reducing Clutter above and it did not do anything different that I could tell, so I uninstalled it. That is when my problems began! Now I am getting a lot of kernel32.dll errors whenever I try to do something. 1. Ran sfc--caused an invalid page fault in module kernel32.dll@017f:bff7a388 and there are other invalid page faults in other things. Any ideas?????

"I loaded the Route1 new toolbar from the Reducing Clutter..."

I've never heard of that toolbar. Is it available for download from Annoyances
site, or was it a suggestion by a poster in one of those threads?

Try restoring a registry backup dated prior to when you installed it. Start/Shutdown,
choose Restart in MS DOS mode, or reboot and hit the CTRL key just before Windows
loads, until you get the boot menu. Choose Command prompt only.

At the C:\> type: scanreg /restore Press enter. A good backup will have the
word "Started" before it. Choose a date prior to this problem. Then hit Enter. You
should get a message that Windows successfully restored the registry. Then CTRL_ALT_DEL
to get back into Windows.

Anthony,

Again you neglected to post info on the System in question. I recall you had a Desk
computer and a Laptop, both with multiple recent problems.

I mention the recent problems because loading new software on a computer with problems
is an invitation for more of the same; problem begets problem.

If the Program is Route 1 Pro from the Software listing on the left side of the screen,
then at least someone may be familiar with it and would potentially be able to advise
if you'd just post some info on the Computer in question.

One thing is true on this site; Better information produces better results. Some
of the Volunteers here are quite good at guessing what you mean, but why should they
have to GUESS? A Dr.? should know this better than anyone, regardless of the field.

"There are no magic pills here either.

Any toobar will install a Browser Helper Object (BHO), but usually will not remove
them when uninstalled. This procedure is certainly worth a try, you can disable one
at a time to hopefully find the problem. The files can also be re-enabled with the
program.
  • Download BHODemon at this link: BHODemon
  • Install and run the program. If it locates anything (dll), highlight it, click 'details' and in 'Select Status' click 'Disable'. Click 'OK' and then exit the program.

Dear JmC; Thank you for your directions.I went to the site and the crux of the thing in somewhat complicated by the fact that the person who is the author (I guess) says that if I have Ad-Aware, there would be a problem. I may very well have to remove the program first and load the two files he says I must load to check for bad dll's. I will let you know. Thank you again. Tony Thannisch

Got your emails..

...over the weekend. Sorry, but you need to post your responses directly on the forum,
so the entire discussion is together. I'm not going to start doing private tech support
by email.

Did you ever run spyware/malware scans? It sounds like you need to do a good cleaning.
You say this is a used ThinkPad, so you've taken over someone else's problems, including
extra junk you probably don't need. Do you have a knowledgeable acquaintance, who
would give you a hand cleaning things up? Did you get a Windows CD or restore disks
with the Thinkpad?

You can't run defrag from the command prompt. That's a 'Windows only' utility. As
for IE, it can't be uninstalled without a third party program, as it's part of Windows.
You would probably need a full download for IE6, if you were to install it. You said
IE 4 is installed? That's way too ancient. There may be a full set of zipped/compressed
IE .CAB files on the the CD provided by SBC, so you can install it from there.

What is the name of the folder all those ZIP files are in, and in which directory?
What's the name of some of those files? I can't say whether you should/shouldn't
delete them, when I've no idea what they are. They could be something you'd have
use for. "Bytes" are very small.

As for an unzipping program, here's one free unzipping program: UltimateZip

Hi CarolJ;
Well, I did exactly as you instructed and the results were as you stated and I did
have a "date started" so I chose the earliest one 3/2/2006. It did its thing and
I got back to windows fine.

However, I still cannot open my Incredimail (server is SBC Yahoo). I have gone to
the Incredimail site a few times and tried to download their program and It goes
thru the motions but something is not installing b/c I still cannot open it, either
by clicking on the shortcut icon or clicking on Incredimail.exe>open.

Additionally, I look at the list shown on the install/uninstall window and there
is NO IE4 or IE5 or IE6 shown even though I have reloaded the IE4 cd and tried to
upgrade to IE6 (several times). There isn't an IE anything on the install/uninstall
menu. It is like the things load but not all of the way. Something is not permitting
a full download. However, Incredimail XE is shown on the menu, I simply cannot open
it to use it. Did you look at the Route1 toolbar?

I have no ZIP ! program and undoubtedly it is a zip file and when it did nothing,
then I uninstalled it. Let me ask you another question, if a file is a zip file and
contains a whole lot of stuff, is any of that considered to be running anything (from
its zipped state)? The reason I ask is that my wife's laptop is used and is an IBM
ThinkPad. It is slower than cold molasses and I have did the disk clean up, scanned
in the safe mode (can I also defrag in the safe mode and, if so, what do I type after
C:\),

I have done a whole lot and it is still super slow. I went to start>find>My Computer
and typed in zip. It showed 28 zip files and one of them has 14 million + bytes and
the others are just about as thick. She has no idea what they are or where they came
from but, since the laptop was used when we got it from a local who knew nothing
about computers, I am wondering if the previous owner had them on there and they
were never removed. Can I simply delete them or would it destroy stuff.

I do n!ot want to go thru this with her laptop. That is why I asked. Her laptop is
just slooooow and I was wondering if this could be the reason. And, since her defrag
is not working (it never gets above 0%), I think this is also a real problem.
