Windows Explorer error, comp won't start

computer type: Compaq w/ Pentium III processor previous history: has had problems
b4 but not like this, C drive is about full...dunno if that helps The last time i
was on my comp, it went to a blue screen w/ error that forced me to just turn it
off...when i tried to startup again it said something about a program that previously
ran that caused 2 problems, one was something about sound...anyways it said to restart
so as to automatically correct them, but then an Explorer error came up and continues
to come up that prevents startup...when i press Ctrl+Alt+Delete there are no programs
running but the desktop bg is there...the error says "EXPLORER caused an exception
6d007eH in module EXPLORER.EXE at 0167:0040a67" in details any suggestions? do i
need to explain more? i'm hoping it can be fixed without calling for a technician

so i'm wondering, could it be possible to fix this w/out a Windows 98 CD? could i
just put a downloaded ole32.dll on a floppy disk? thx

You do use WinXP, correct?
If a bad ole32.dll file is your problem, you may be able to fix it via a download
of that file (it's important though that you have the right version), or from your
own hard disk or your WinXP CD.
It's unclear to me from your message: you are able to boot up, but your desktop
and Start menu don't appear, correct?
If correct, try this first:
Boot into safe mode with command prompt. Run the Windows system file
checker at the command prompt in the command prompt window, using this command (note
the space between SFC and the forward slash):
SFC /SCANNOW
Follow any on-screen instructions.
Have the WinXP CD nearby as you may be prompted to insert it.
When the process is done, reboot.

Please ignore my prior post.
Sorry for any confusion.
To answer though your question, yes, you could download that ole32.dll file, but
you need the correct version for your computer, which is why MS recommends the procedure
the Article gives so as to get the right version.
You don't have the disk?

As that article also suggests, you may have a set of Windows CAB install files in
a directory on your drive. PC Manufacturers normally don't include a Windows installation
CD, but rather when they Pre-install Windows, they copy the CAB folder directly to
the hard disk.
