PRI Slave Drive ATAPI Incompatible

On my older Windows 98SE system I have started getting the message "PRI Slave Drive ATAPI Incompatible" on startup. I have to push F1 to continue. I have searched the Windows 98 help, the Microsoft Knowledge base, and past Annoyances posts, but find little info. How do I tell which is the primary slave drive on my computer? If I knew that maybe I should update or reinstall the driver for that device?? I'm expect this is pretty basic, can someone help me?

Hi,

You probably have your CD-rom/Cd-RW drive attached as a slave device on the Primary
IDE channel. You could try deleting the CD-rom in Device Manager and reboot to see
if Windows redetects it and reinstalls the atapi drivers for it. Better yet, if you
don't have any devices attached to the Secondary ide chan you could attach the cd-rom
as a Master device to it instead. (Change the master/slave strap options on the back
of the cd drive first.) That would allow the hard drv to run at its optimal speed
also.
