I have 1st ed Wind 98 installed...now I have purchased 98 SE ( s/h.. no instructions)...can I install it straight over the top of the 1 st...if not what do I have to do to ensure that I dont foul up something? (Ive been known to do this!) Thanks in anticipation. John.

If nothing is currently broken,that will work.
This is not, however, what is generally recommended.

You are being presented with an excellent opportunity
to back up your data to external media, format the drive, and do a CLEAN install.

(Some people do a clean reinstall of Windoze periodically
to get rid of the cruft that builds up.)
