It is only renamed to something that the operating system ignores.

Emmanuel,

My understanding is that the HDD sectors, that previously contained the file contents,
are marked as "freespace" by the Operating System. Eventually that space will be
over-written and the previous file will no longer be accessable.

If you have not emptied the Recycle Bin, the file should be recoverable. Other than
that, special file recovery software is required to restore the file. Right click
on the Recycle Bin and select explore. If the file is still there, right click on
it then click restore.

Emmanuel,

you cannot retrieve a file that you have deleted out of the recycling bin, it is
gone forever and the title will only show up in the contents of particular hidden
system DAT file.

However, files you have recycled and then deleted from the recycling bin can be retrieved
from the following hidden folder: “C:\Recycled”.

1) Your statement is only correct if you add
"with the software supplied by Microsoft".

2) You didn't respond to Emmanuel; you responded to me.
Perhaps you should reconsider your choice of Preferences:

That is not at all true.

What aspect of my post are you talking about?
Microsoft clearly says that using file-recovery tools
on 9x systems is highly not recommended & dangerous.

Btw, you have the intelligence of a 4 year old :)

ALL of it is nonsense.

Would that be the same Microsoft
that shipped Internet Exploder and Outbreaks In Excess?

Getting back "deleted" files is child's play.
More shame on M$ for not including such a utility with the OS.

It's 2 years later and you're just as ignorant.
I suggest you learn a lot more about the subjects about which you offer advice,
specifically about *filesystems*.

File-recovery tools were un-heard of in the late 90s & it is due to the foolish actions
of people that such programs are created.

Your extreme ignorance is showing AGAIN

One of the dumbest things I've heard in a LONG time.
Peter Norton produced an UNDELETE utility
shortly after the IBM-PC was introduced in 1981.

Your flaunting of your extreme ignorance is getting tiring.

Well, YOU should certainly recognize foolish people.
What's that they say about "birds of a feather"?
