hello how are you . I am not computer literate but will explain the best i can . i have a compaq presario with windows 98 the old thing runs perfect for its age. My problem is over the last couple days every morning i start the comp it loads my avg does its scan & continues to load then a black screen apears and just shuts me down. i restart the comp & it starts in safe mode option apears i press cont and it loads windows in safe mode all my settings are fine, i did a avg test while in safe mode & 2 objects stated that ... boot sector of disk ... reading error path c and the other was partiton table (mbr) ... reading error. i dont have a clue. i do a quick check on settings etc all is ok so i shut down restart it loads without a problem i then do a ad-aware ..spybot s&d plus avg test nothing is found. i dont surf the net i only go to one site daily, only other site i go to is annoyance org when i run into trouble for your kind & appreciated imput. thank you for reading my problem & await your response. regards amanda

"boot sector of disk ... reading error path c and the other was partiton table (mbr)
... reading error. " --- Your hard drive is (probably) dying.

If you want any data from that drive, back it up now. If you cannot back it up, I
wouldn't use it until you can. Afterwards, you can try scandisk, but it sounds like
the boot sector is worn.

If you just want to get a used drive to replace it, start another thread asking about
free disk imaging software. Or just re-install windows and your apps.
