Script errors while using HP software

My HP scanner has a "director window" that allows me to interface to the scanner/printer
however when bringing up the "director window" I get script errors. If I boot with
my backup hard drive the program works fine. Just to be sure I copied the entire
program from my backup drive to my primary drive, rebooted with my primary drive
and still have the error.
So I then tried to bringup the "Director Window" from my backup drive and now I get
the script error there, too. So something in my primary drive is not configuring
my computer properly when booting.
I hope this makes sense! I'm hoping you can get me headed in the right direction.
Thanks a mil, Uncle Dewey

If you are having problems with a vendor's software, contact THAT vendor

This is a WINDOWS 98 forum.
If your problem is truly a Windows 98 problem,
Hewlett-Packard is in the best position to verify that and to reveal the solution.

So you exposed your backup to the same problem, hmmm. Not good troubleshooting technique.
Might be worthwhile posting the complete error message
someone might recognize it.
Try uninstalling and reinstalling the offending program on one drive only. Knowing
HP you'll also have to search for orphaned files and registry entries. HP sometimes
leaves entries in Msconfig.
And you thought it was your computer!
Also consider, that corupting your backup by opening the
Director Window on your primary may have set registry entrys on the primary HDD relating
to both instances of the program. Assuming, of course, that you have an Operating
system on both drives.
I had a HP printer that crashed on my C:\ and I used the same printer software on
my backup Drive . The printer did not crash on the secondary, but I could not reinstall
the software on C:\ untill I disconnected the backup drive from the IDE cable. HP
refuses duplicate installs of the same device.
Probably could have just pulled the Power connector, but pulld both after several
hours spent trying to reinstall.

I have uninstalled/reinstalled the program several times with the same result. I
now have the exact same copy of the program on both my primary drive and secondary
drive. The program works if I make my secondary drive the primary and reboot. I have
deduced the problem is not the program, but rather something amiss in my Windows
98 configuration on my orignal primary drive.
Because I have reinstalled the program I also assume the printer drivers are okay
and besides the problem occurs before I am ready to scan from the printer. I can
use the printer for printing successfully.
Thanks for listening!!! Uncle Dewey

Dewey,
If you'd post the Error messages, exactly, someone might be able to advise.
Or you could type the error into google search window and see what comes up.

Hi Bob, The exact error message changes, but
indicates a script error on this page. It says there
is an error in line: ##, and character: ## and says:
Error: "Object Expected", "Object Required",
"Expected ';', etc. The line and character numbers
change.
I'll keep trying and appreciate your input!!!! Uncle Dewey

Hooray!!!!!!!!!!!! I have felt my problem was in Windows and it was possibly a corrupted
file, but......... I did not have a Windows CD so I could reload Windows. What
I finally did was boot with my backup drive and then copy all of Windows from that
drive to my original C:\ drive. I then rebooted with my orignal C:\ drive and all
is well!!!!!!!!
Thanks for bearing with me!!!!! Uncle Dewey

Dewey,
That's good you got it fixed.
I've been seeing the same type of error when my ISP home page opens on Win XP Pro
Laptop. Havn't found a lasting fix, it just comes and goes at will. I think my efforts
have led to another error that I can't define.
Unfortunately I don't have a clue as to what to reload to fix it. Tried the ISP
software and restoring the the configuration Via Internet. Same old-same old. Hmmmmmm.
