I can't get programs to open on the icons, only through run

I tried a fix from Jmc, that was posted on Jan 11-12 and I downloaded the Regedit.exe and exefix08.reg and I did everything he said and I got the message that the file could not be open. I checked and made sure I had the correct files, and I typed the command exactly as it was posted. Could someone please tell me what I am doing wrong. I know it will be something simple, it always is. Thank you very much!

Patsy,

Try this; Download and install TweakUI.exe V1.33 for win9x from this link. Scroll
down till you find it.

Be sure to read the info about the program, including the links.

Don't have my Win98SE system up but I think what you're looking for is on the Repair
Tab in Tweak UI. "Rebuild Icon Cache"

Even if this doesn't fix your immediate problem, it's a useful Program and it's FREE.

BW Thanks for the info. I downloaded Tweak UI.exe, but don't have time right now to try it out, but Thanks and I will let you know how it worked. Patsy

Note: That post was from 2006.

You could make it easier on us.

Including a link to something you are referencing is always appreciated.
1) Move the cursor to the Address Bar of that browser page
such that all of the URL is highlighted (marked).
2) Ctrl+C (or Edit; Copy)
3) On the Annoyances posting page, click the QuickLink button.
This will make your link clickable.
4) Ctrl+V (or Edit; Paste)
5) Click "Insert".
6) Move the auto-generated link

where you want it in the text.
I prefer that folks remove the **target=_blank ** part.

It should be obvious to you that you will also need to sweep your system
and take better proactive measures in the future.
