im having a problem with my computer. this problem started yesterday. It all started when i had to restart my computer with ctrl alt and delete because my internet browsers froze and i couldnt restart the computer the normal way. So when the computer restarted, it got stuck on the dell logo and then i heard clicking noises coming from the inside of the computer, so windows 98 didnt start up. when i waited a few seconds, a black screen appeared that told me something about inserting a boot diskette in drive a . I restarted the computer again, and windows 98 still didnt start up and i kept on hearing the same clicking noise coming from the inside of the computer. Then i waited a few minutes later, and windows 98 started up again. But the same problem occurred again today. I dont know where this problem is coming from, but it seems to be coming from the clicking noise from the inside of the computer, and it also seems to be happening whenever i restart the computer. is there a way to fix this problem?

Your hard drive is dying.
Of couse you have all your precious files backed up to external media
(CDs / USB drive / thumbdrives).
Buy a new drive, install an operating system, and copy your backups to the new drive.

As gewg says it sounds like you HD is dying. You could start your comp up in DOS
mode and run Scandisk with a full scan to check any bad sectors on the drive.

As you comp is staring up hold down the Ctrl key until you see the DOS menu. Select
Command Prompt Only then type in Scandisk and enter.

If its asking you to insert a boot disk then the startup files are probably missing
or corrupt. If you have a boot disk with Sys.com on it then you can put these files
back. Start the comp up with the boot disk inserted, check in you BIOS for the boot
sequence to startup from the floppy. At the A:\ just type Sys C: and this will transfer
you system files back to your HD.
