This is the most nearly *universal* USB device driver for Win9x:

:there is [as] gewg_ shows you, but I can't get them to work.
: Keith Stanier

Keith's is the ONLY testimony I have EVER seen or heard
that the generic USB device driver(s) do(es)n't work.

His comments may also be about a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT driver
--one modified by Maximus Decim--and NOT the (even more extensive) one
which was done by Nathan Lineback and mentioned in this thread.

I've said it before and I'll say it again:
Having more than 1 USB device driver installed sounds like a recipe for disaster.
The guys who have written these things
say that Step #1 is to get rid of any driver(s) that aren't doing the whole job.
My conjecture is that Keith didn't follow directions.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: My conjecture is that Keith didn't follow directions. Well gewg_ I thought I would try it again just for you. I uninstalled all my drivers and did a restart. In the zip there are only 4 files SNDK95H.inf, USBIMW95.sys, Usbstw95.inf and USBSTW95.pdr. There is no exe to install so I just right-click on each inf file and selected Install. I checked my HD for any additional files and none of these were added to the HD. So I insert my pens and nothing happens. Reading his instructions he says. I noticed sometimes after installing/re-installing the driver the drive fails to mount or show up in "My Computer" even after rebooting. If this happens, try going to the device manager, open the hard drives group, and find and remove the entry for your drive from there. Then remove and re-insert the flash drive and it should be found again. There is no extra drive showing up in Device Manager

same here, drive shows up in device manager, but not as a drive in explorer :-(
removing drive from devicemanager does not help either

more info: if I reboot with usb stick installed, it is not powered (led stays off)

mentioned was made on unistalling drivers that do not work: how to do this when the
device for which they are there is not in the computer? delete the .sys file from
the win/sys32/drivers directory?

Sounds like hardware failure to me.

Do you have a dual-boot setup so you can try it with another OS?
Tried booting to a Linux CD (Knoppix, EBCD)?

stick works in other PC's and other USB devices work fine on the PC......

led goes on when I insert the stick when the pc is on

will dig up a Knoppix CD and test that

well, I think it is something with those memory sticks not all using the same standard
or similar.. my MP3 player is recognised and shows up as a disk on this machine
using the universal driver... and I noticed with a different computer (in the office)
that not all sticks will function at all computers, sometimes using a different USB
port will make it work or not...
