Hi Tobie.

You haven't really stated the size of this flash drive because #2518220 2GO doesn't
really say much unless its a 2GB.

I have 4) USB flash drives and each one needs different drivers. Though there are
so call universal drivers Windows
98 USB Mass Storage Device Drivers but I can't get them to work. Have a word
with gewg_ he likes these drivers.

You will find that only certain sizes of flash drives are supported by Win98, usually
2GB or less.

If you are going to use a 9-year-old operating sysyem,
you need to read the packaging BEFORE you buy things
and MAKE SURE it supports **your** OS.
Why give your $$ to companies that treat you like a bastard step-child?

|It worked [OK?] with my PC-WindowsXP,

I'm not sure where you got "pilot driver" from, but that is a colorful new term.

As Keith said, *generic* or *universal* USB device drivers exist.
Maximus Decim's is actually not the best one.

Nathan Lineback's is even better:

Keith's report that these do not work 100% of the time
is the **only** such report I have ever heard.
My 4GB unit works perfectly, as do all my lesser units.

My 4GB unit works perfectly, as do all my lesser units. I know we've talked about this before gewg but just for Tobie's sake I will repeat it. As I've said I have 6 USB flash drives. 3 Kingston and 3 PQI. The 3 Kingston need different drivers installed for each one, so they can be used. The 3 PQI are the same so they only need one driver installed. When I first read your report on downloading universal drivers I downloaded them to try them out. I uninstall all my drivers. I searched the registry to remove any evidence that was left behind. I installed the universal drivers did a restart and plugged my drives back. And none of them were recognised. I did a check to see what files these universal drivers had installed and nothing came up. So to me why don't work for my drives. I put my original drivers back in and all drives are recognised again.

Safe Mode Device Manager (vs. Normal Mode)

When installing the Generic USB Mass Storage Driver on an existing Win98SE install, I remove all USB devices from Device Manager in Safe Mode.

Safe Mode Device Manager shows devices that are NOT 'currently installed' (but are still logged in the system), unlike Normal Mode Device Manager.

For instance, in Normal Mode Device Manager, you will only see your currently installed optical drives in the CD-ROM tab, whereas in Safe Mode Device Manager, you will see every optical drive that has ever been installed in that computer (even all of the external optical drives that were ever used, as applicable), unless/until you remove them from Safe Mode Device Manager.

You might be surprised at how many conflicts can be resolved by the correct use of Safe Mode Device Manager. It is generally safe to remove any listing for an internal device that is known to be no longer installed in the system, and it's even a good idea (to prevent possible conflicts).

Removable USB devices don't show up in Normal Mode Device Manager unless they are plugged into the system, so you can't remove them from there unless they're plugged in, and removing them from (Normal Mode) Device Manager while they're plugged in may not be a good idea in certain cases!

In Win98 Safe Mode, USB is disabled, so you can safely remove any and all removable USB device listings from (Safe Mode) Device Manager.

So, before installing the Generic driver, you should uninstall all of the removable drives' Win98SE drivers in Normal Mode, then boot to Safe Mode and remove the drives' listings under Disk Drives and Universal Serial Bus Controllers, as applicable.

I've done this procedure for several 'existing' Win98SE installs (on my 1.1 Athlon, and others' computers), and the Generic driver has worked fine in every case...

-------------------------------------------------------------

Athlon 1.1 - 768 MB RAM = 98SE & XP Home

Athlon 3000+ 64 - 1024 MB RAM = 98SE (@768 MB RAM) & XP Pro

IBM ThinkPad PIII 900 - 384 MB RAM = 98SE & XP Pro SP2

Windows 2000 Server in the basement

I have the same device 2GB, 200x speed, centrios 2518220. At my company computer it works fine (win xp) but at home with win2k it does not work at all. The computer acts like the drive does not exist. I have emailed the company and am waiting for a response as there is no driver for it on their website.
