Syatem freezes when emptying thr recycle bin

It doesn't matter if I open the recycle bin or manually select items in the bin and delete them. My computer just locks up. Is there a fix for this?

You could try booting to DOS (using a bootable floppy disk, e.g. from http://www.bootdisk.com), and then delete the contents of the folder C:\RECYCLED manually.

As that folder is a hidden folder, DOS utilities won't "see" it. You need to unhide the folder from the C: prompt in DOS before using the DELETE comand.

Or you download and install Ccleaner its free
and you can empty you Recycle folder with that. You can also do a lot of other things
as well, its worth having installed.

How about if you just right click the Bin and choose "empty recycle bin", without
opening it? There's not a specific solution for this problem, that I'm aware of.

The previous posters gave you workarounds, but it's hard to say what the problem
is for sure. When's the last time you did disk maintenance? Install CCleaner as suggested,
and run it.

Even though you want to be able to empty the bin, CCleaner is a good app to have
for cleaning out temp files, etc. Then run scan disk then defrag your drive, if it's
been awhile. Remove unnecessary applications from startup, then let us know if the
problem persists.
