i updated 2 a bettr winamp version on my 98 but after a few runs its started crashin n now the comp has started 2 hang up also...pls HELP!!

Note that it says "Windows 2000"!

My experience has been that Winamp v5.06 is the best version to use with Windows 98:

Maybe so Ed, I was just showing the highest version number that is supported by Win9x.

Yes, that's what I figured.

But I personally won't use v5.08 or any higher version because that's when they started messing with it, by removing existing functions and adding bloat.
