Mazilla Firefox

Lately I am having problem with Firefox. I usually use Firefox for searching the
web sites. I click on the icon on the task bar but nothing comes up. I can hear the
computer doing something for a while, the hourglass is turning but nothing comes
up.
What could be the problem?

Got to one of the places where that software is discussed exclusively:

Maybe it's just me, but it seems that FANBOI gewg_ doesn't want to assist you with
his favorite solution to IE problems (FireFox, if you're new here).
I don't understand Promoting software to replace Windows components, then refusing
to provide assistance to people who took the advice. I'm sure Annoyances.org is not
so busy that his would this would be a major imposition.
Yes, this is a Windows OS forum, but the Dr. should stand behind his proscriptions.
Just my opinion.
Yeah, I'm gonna get dumped on, so what!
There's nothing to learn from someone who already agrees with you.

Well, MY favorite solution is *SeaMonkey* (the suite)--but yeah,
Gecko-based apps (Mozilla stuff) are good replacements for Micro$oft applications.

The term you are seeking is *appropriate forum*.
If the OP wants the BEST information,
then a place which deals *only* with that topic would be the BEST place to find it.
As she is likely to have ADDITIONAL questions about that app in the future,
she should get in the habit of
asking those questions in one of those app-specific places.

...and prescriptions[1]. A good physician, however,
knows when it's time to hand off a case to the proper specialist.
Having a foot doctor operate on your heart in his office seems foolish
compared to having it handled by the experienced team at a cardiac care center.
[1] I remain steadfast in my proscription
against M$ browsers and email/newsreader apps.

Good idea, Steve.
I was about to do that, but I was thinking that I will loose all the Book's marks
that I had.

I am sorry that my post caused some annoyance.
This board had helped me a lot in the past, so I put the message in hope that someone
had similar problem and would help me.
I hope Bob that you are not dumped on so much.....sorry.

You will only lose your bookmarks if you also delete a couple Firefox folders after
the uninstall. Firefox leaves these behind, but reuses them when it is reinstalled.
I will usually backup the Bookmarks also, but that is up to you. Bookmarks have a
export import feature in the Organize Bookmark feature under the File Tab.

Marina,
Your post was fine, IMHO.
If I were familiar with FireFox I would have attempted to assist you, as Steve did.
I just find it a little irritating that FireFix is pushed so hard on this Forum,
yet the Pushers refuse to accept any responsibility to the individuals who take their
advice, and then need help with the Software they're pushing.
I do believe that this Forum can afford the space.
Not to worry, Marina. I was asking for it; to make a point.
It was mostly a Poke & Jab, intended to elicit a reaction.
Ain't no thing.
BW :)

I was not able to uninstall Firefox. It said: cannot find file. So I delete the folder.
I installed the new version of Firefox and was able to get all the Bookmarks back.
I saw that l still have the executable of the previous version. Should I delete it
or not.
Thanks for your help.
Marina.

Yeah, I had a similar problem with Firefox under Win98. It seems to start a process
but never get as far as drawing a window; you can even click the icon again and end
up with two non-functioning instances running. I also experienced random crashes
of the program. Nothing I did would cure it (including reinstallation) so in the
end I moved to Win XP, partly because it is getting so hard to get software which
is properly supported under Win 98. Unfortunately XP has its own drawbacks on my
old, slow, non-Intel sachine, so I'm thinking of reverting to Win 98. At least now
it'll be a totally clean installation of Win 98 so I would expect any issues to have
gone away.
Let us know how Firefox performs after the reinstallation!

Probably won't hurt to delete the executable of the previous version. Not really
sure what you got going on at this point.
