I ran a scan with Avg Anti-Virus and it detected a virus by the name of Bat/Deleter. It then healed it but two file errors were found which makes me believe that I did not completely get rid of it from my system. I then ran the Anti-Virus program in Safe Mode and received the same two file error messages. I then ran Cw Shredder, Ad-Aware and Spybot but none of these programs had detected it. If anyone can provide me with step by step directions to purge this virus, it would be greatly appreciated. I am able to log onto the Internet and work offline. John

First, "Re:" is something that is auto-inserted into the Subject line of a *response*;
an Original Poster to a thread shouldn't include that, as it is confusing.
("WRT" would be more appropriate, though that is verbose as well.)

It sounds like you have done all the basics.

Malware variants have become so plentiful that
good malware removal skills have become a distinct knowledge set.

Carol J used to occasionally invest the immense time and patience required
to deal with other people's infections, but that has been quite some time and
I don't know of anyone here who currently has dedicted the time to gain those skills
and/or is willing to invest that kind of time into dealing with someone else's infection.
Most old hands here take the steps to AVOID this kind of nonsense.

You need the specialized services of a "malware forum".
The general rule of dealing with an infection is Post to ONE MALWARE FORUM ONLY.

If you do your part and work patiently with the folks at that forum
and you still can't get your problem resolved,
then there are other malware forums listed at the bottom of this post:
from The Usenet Archive -- "shplink" alt.privacy.spyware

Here is another free virus scanner you can try that works on Win98.

It's a shame it has been discontinued as it is a handy backup scanner. I checked
the link and it is still good.

The latest virus signature files are available on this page but I expect that they
will be discontinued this year as well.

You will need to download both zip files to be fully updated. If anything, this virus
scanner can be a little too sensive bringing up the occasional false positive.

Trend Micro's Java-based online scanner works on ANY box that has Java installed.
This includes OS X and Solaris (which don't really need it
--except to protect the fragile Windoze boxes with which they communicate). 8-)
Your chosen OS never becomes obsolete to this tool.

Ah. You got me thinking.
It's obvious that the lazy OP didn't do even a rudimentary Google:

This came up #7 among the hits:
