Wrong tool. It only requires a text editor.[1]

This guy even makes a retrograde move easy (in case you didn't make backups):
cache of http://pthbb.org/manual/software/logo.sys
++logos.sys+logow.sys-http+here-are-the-originals
My preference is to dump the M$ advertisment so I can see what's going on
(text only).

Those are for Win95 because Win98 doesn't have a Logo.sys in the root of the
drive, as you must know gewg_.
They have Logow.sys for shutting down and Logos.sys for turn of computer
in the Windows folder but I've never seen them come up on my system.
I've seen people modify the startup logo but I can't remember what file they used.

Keith,
You've got that weird blockquoting thing going again.

Yes...ALSO. (Not *only*.)

With the *default* install, this is true.

Ah. You are correct in that I answered a question that wasn't asked. Hmmm.

You can use *any* file that's the proper dimensions and color depth.
This Usenet post has most of the details.

The final bit is:
To completely get rid of the M$ advertisement at Startup
(so you can see what's really happening--as I have),
use the Logo=0 tip mentioned in the computertips.com page.
That's where the text editor comes in.
