winipcfg not releasing or renewing

Hello. I have an old laptop with Windows 98. Until recently I have been able to connect to wireless without any problems. I have an AT & T network card. Since getting the laptop (used) in order to connect to the internet I would have to run winipcfg, release and then renew. I was advised when I first bought the computer a few years ago, that I'd have to connect using winipcfg command. Ok...so like I say, been connecting fine. I hadn't used it in some time and a couple of weeks ago I was going to use it. I ran winipcfg and now it will not release or renew. When I click release, the ip address number do not clear as they had before. When I click renew, I get the hour glass and eventually get an error that stated something about the adaptor. Sorry thought I had that written down ! Anyway, I searched the forum and found several things but much of it was a bit above my head. Can anyone offer suggestions, that's easy to follow :-) Thanks, RobinC

You didn't give any info about your network equipt but try cycling the power on/off
on your wireless router and try connecting again. If that doesn't work, if you have
a wired ethernet jack on the laptop, try plugging an ethernet cable from your laptop
directly into a wired port on your router and then release/renew your ip. Might have
to temporarily disable the wireless nic. Post back w/ your results.
