look, i dont relly know that much about computers but when i load the computer it goes through the normal begining, but than an error mesage pops up and says "A requiered .DLL file C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\MSVCRT.DLL was not found." i was wondering what to do because if i ignnore the mesage and log on, another screen pops up and says "error loading Explorer.exe. you must reinstall Windows." and wont allow me to click on anything. does this mean its a problem with windows or explorer? i would really prefer to just reset the whole thing but im not sure how. if anyone could help me out here it would be greatly appreciated (i dont know if it helps, but i have a CD that reads "Windows 98 Starts Hear"). thanks.

You should learn how to use Google.
http://www.google.com/search?q=A.required.DLL+MSVCRT+intitle:Explorer+Windows.98+site:microsoft.com

You should also get and use a spellchecker.

[1] Well, almost: Most Microsoft error messages are VERY Google-able.

Hi. This is not anything about your problem which they gave you good answers for. However, I just wish people would realize that they don't need to degrade others no matter how great they think they are. Don't bother to answer if you think you are THE JUDGE OF ALL MATTERS ON EARTH. Thanks:)

Cat,
Your high level of empathy must endear you to many.
OTOH, your ability to differentiate between
*describing better techniques* and *degrading someone* is seriously lacking.

I don't know how long you've been on the planet,
but I've lived long enough to have seen a few things
and I've seen what gets thing done and what *doesn't* work so well.

It's been pointed out before that my personal demeanor is often brusque,
but my goal is generally *The greatest good for the largest number of people*.

To all:

If you post a question here, the volunteers are under no obligation to answer it.

You could make it appear that you are actually interested in your own problem
by doing some simple things:

1) If you get an error message, Google it.
Write it down, double check to see that you have spelled all the words correctly,
and put that into a search engine[1].
Make sure that you put quotation marks around the sentence/phrase.

There are millions of people who have used Windows 98.
The odds that YOU are the first person to encounter this problem are small.
A Microsoft error message makes that possibility ZERO.

It is almost certain that the first thing that Google will show is Microsoft's solution.
If you have read that page and don't understand some point in it,
mention what that point is when you post here.

2) When posting here, first, THINK about what you are going to say.
Use clear language, capitalization, and punctuation. (No im-speak.)

3) Don't be selfish.
If you are a lousy speller, get a spellchecker and use it.

That helps the volunteers figure out what you are trying to say.
In addition, this site is archived and, IF you spell things correctly,
a search engine may lead someone else directly to the answer for *his* problem.

4) Formatting your post (paragraph breaks) and previewing your post
(UNtick the **No preview** box)
http://www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/win98/config
make it easier for the volunteers to read--especially if it quite long.
The Don't use this option unless you really need it thing is nonsense;
It should read
Don't tick this if your post is VERY short
or if you are hand-formating your post as HTML.

[1] Yahoo often gives better better results than Google WRT this site.

1. My abilitity to differentiate is excellant.
2. Your very mean spirited and self important and your excuses for being rude are
lame.
3. As a volunteer, you should only answer the question. No one asked for your technique
help. If I were the owner of this forum I would not appreciate you.
4. I doubt if it matters what anyone tells you because I can see you are a rock
head by your reply.
5. You have created a new catagory of the human race called BULLY TECHNICAL HELP.
