Incomplete shutdown

Hello, my daughter's old PC(Pentium III 500 MHz, 256 Mb RAM) doesn't switch off power at the end of shutdown process. This problem apart, it works all right. A look at BIOS, relating APM tells: Power Management: User define, ACPI function: Enabled, PM control by APM: Yes, Doze mode: Disabled, Standby mode: Disabled, Suspend mode: Disabled, HDD Power down: Disabled, PCI/VGA Act-Monitor: Disabled. Besides, in the system doesn't seem to be any APM module. Any suggestion? Best regards. Alberto

Hi Alberto,

Also might be worth considering this - I've never had shutdown problems on any Win98 computer where I've carried out regular registry cleaning. Some popular and reliable cleaners are CCleaner, Regseeker and Glary Utilities, all available as free downloads.

Hello, At last I found that it was the network adapter (a Realtek, which was changed recently) that prevented Windows to shutdown completely. I read that this is a problem that can be solved replacing the drivers (I have got the complete list of them) for it with the original (pre-SE)Windows 98 Version (4.10.1998) but I don't know neither where to find them nor the procedure for their installation. Can you help me ? Best Regards. Alberto
