This past week have been unable to connect to any website that requires a log-in(for
example email, ebay, etc). Any ideas? Am desperate. Need to apply for jobs but
cannot do this on computer at "temp" job. Thank you.

"Fixing" their "broken" computer sounds like a good way to get canned.
I would assume the company has consciously blocked access to hotmail and e-bay.
The only thing I would try on a company computer
(assuming that Internet Exploder is the default browser and that it is borked)
is to use my own browser on a thumbdrive.
http://www.google.com/search?q=portableapps+firefox
Since Internet Exploder leaves a record IN THE REGISTRY about where you surf,
it seems pretty dumb to use that PoS anyway.
If the DNS configuration *is* borked,
cache of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domain_Name_System#Broken_resolvers
I'd assume that was on purpose
and I wouldn't raise any red flags trying to "fix" it.

Must have not been clear. I am having the problem at my home computer. Mentioned
my office computer only to emphasize my stress in not being able to obtain my email
at all. The error message applies to my home computer.

OK. We're on the same wavelength now.
If you had a second (MODERN)
browser installed, you could use that as a test.
(Those are also less likely to ASSIST in INFECTING your Windoze computer.)
If that test showed that Internet Exploder was the problem,
you could just stop using that PoS and switch permanently
to your other BETTER browser.
If IE is broken and you want to try to fix that hunk of junk, here's the stuff.

The reported DNS error message, however, could be due to any of a number of things:
http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=251037
You didn't say that you had been doing something different lately;
that could be a possible cause as well.

Sheila,
Open internet options in Control panel and clear History, Temporary Internet Files
(ckeck Off Line Content Box), clear Cookies, then reboot and try again.
You will have to Log in to all sites that require it, but this is unavoidable.
Also try ruducing the amout of disk space allowed for Temporary Internet files to
less than 100mb, (arbitrary) go as low as you want, say 10mb.
On the Advanced Tab of Internet Options, scroll down & locate check box for "Empty
Temporary Internet Folder when Browser is closed: put a check in the box.
See if this helps and post Back here.
Sorry, but I can find a single Mozilla Fire Fox fix for your problems. Could it be
that you are NOT running F F. Can't imagine, for the life of me, why FF can't repair
IE! ;)

Hi Sheila.
These login names and passwords are stored in the cookies for that web site.
Now what I would recommend is you download CCleaner.
Apart from clearing all the rubbish of your computer it has an option to save all
the cookies from the sites that you visit that need a username and password. Then
it will delete all the others. This is far better than IE's cookie removal.
CCleaner is free but you can give a donation if you find the program useful.
They also make Recuva which is an excellent
app if you accidentally deleted a file. It will recover it providing it hasn't been
overwritten by another file. Recuva is free as well.
The also have a Forum
if you want to ask any questions about their products.
Both of these products are highly recommended.

Sorry Keith, I'm not Sheila.
I have found trying to save Cookies to be of little value. They will be created again
with a new Login, with little chance of corruption from previous failures.
Yeah it takes longer the first time but the first time only.

RE:Note of 4/4
I did all you suggested including checking "empty temp ionternet folder when browser
is closed" and still nothing.
Thank you for replying.

Dear GEWG,
My connection is DSL. I tried to download Spybot but get response "cannot locate
server" even though up and running. Thank you for your suggestion, however.
