Hi guyz. I am having some sily problem regarding the display options/properties in windows 98. Actually i have an application for windopws 98 which have the requirement of 1280 x 1024 reolution in 24 bit colors. now i can adjust the resolution of the system accordingly. But for the color setting, i only get the options of "256 color", "16 bit", "32 bit". I tried to execute the application with all those color seting with the desired resolution, but i always get the error indicateing to change the resolution to 1280 x 1024 by 24. Is there any way i can set the color seting to 24, instead of 32? Thanks in advance. Regards, Abid

I use to have a old Computer that supported 24 bit color, so maybe you can locate a old Video Card that supports that color depth.

Don't you think that it may be more of a function of the drivers, so if a video card does have 32-Bit Color settings, it ought to be capable of 24-Bit as well, with an older set of video drivers, perhaps?

Whichever it is, however, technically, it's not an annoyance in Windows, but in the hardware.

I agree it is a Driver issue, but just doubt He find one.

Try using regedit to change the "BitsPerPixel"="16" value (to 24) under the
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Config\0001\Display\Settings] key. Re-boot. Hopefully your monitor
will display in 16 bit but the app will "see" 24 bit in the registry. If you have
problems seeing the screen, boot to safe mode and change it back.
NOTE: I don't have a 98 pc handy, but that 95 registry entry should be close.

re: Video Driver issue, not Windows' own fault

It's almost a week later, and the OP never returned. If he took my suggestion, he asked about drivers versus 24 Bit color on a video card message site. Admittedly, the query was a jumbled, misspelled, bit of a mess, but the OP did find THIS place.

So if the PC involved is an old one, with an old video card, then the odds are good that somewhere out there, Google or Yahoo can find out where, someone saved a copy of the old driver.
