I have a question about How
do I uninstall Windows?:
i have an old compaq presario that has a windows 98 os and tried to upgrade to xp
by adding that system. i found that i am now short of space on my 'd' drive and wonder
if reformating my hard drive with just the xp os would cure that problem? Also, what
will that do to my hardware drivers? i am a neophyte at this.

Hi Jim.
It depends if your version of WinXP was an upgrade for Win98?
If its an upgrade then you need a basic Windows OS installed to start with. If its
a stand alone version of WinXP then you could format the drive and do a fresh install
but I don't think its going to save you any space because I don't think you have
much.
What size is your hard drive? How much memory do you have?
Even if you did a fresh install you will still need your additional hardware drivers,
sound card, graphics card, printer, scanner etc because you may find that your drivers
aren't compatable with WinXP. Thats another pain of WinXP.

think i messed up that last message. i said i think i will wipe this machine clean
and donate it. it is quite old and, as you said, doesn't have much memory. thanx

You might want to mention what tool you are planning to use.
I'll bet you a dollar that I (and many others) can still get the data off of it
after you think your HDD is "wiped".
