Windows 98 display problems

Help!!! After setting up my work station my display settings got messed up. I've tried everything I know to reset them unfortunately to no avail. I can't even install my HP all-in-one info. Any advice to assist me in correcting this annoying problem would be greatly appreciated.

It appears you have a header or footer set in your user config.
You should blank out that dialog box and save your settings.

Your device driver for that item is trashed.
Find the disk that came with your video card (or motherboard).
If you don't have that, go to the manufacturer's site
and download the video device driver for your model.

In Device Manager, Remove that device (Display Adapter).
When you restart Windoze, it will prompt you to replace the missing driver.
Point it at the install media.

Read this post as well--especially the part about Mike Moniz.

When you get things working properly,
back up all your device drivers to external media (all on a single disk).

That sounds like a completely seperate issue
(though it *would* be device driver-related).
If it is a USB device, follow the directions that came with the unit;
different devices want to do it different ways.
Again: Remove the existing driver if you are trying to reinstall.

...and update your malware killer(s) and scan for infections.

Thank you for all your input. I know this is something less complicated so I do appreciate your help. Still trying to get the issue cleared up. Now...where can I find the manufacturers download site? Also, when trying to install my HP everything went fine until I received a msg. due to display issues the installation was aborted. Gina

You have not yet removed the footer from your config.

Be more specific about what you mean and what leads you to that conclusion.
...and the solution described was not at all complicated.

NOTE: I become very short-tempered with neophites who second-guess me
without showing evidence of WHERE I am wrong.

If you know who the manufacturer is,
it is likely to be the 1st item in a search engine's returns:
http://www.google.com/
You should add the search term "device drivers" or simply drivers.

If you *don't* know the manufacturer's name, read this

Ah. A verbatim
error message is ALWAYS more useful than your interpretation of it.

Until you have a properly-working video subsystem,
you can expect to continue to get that message.
Why you are surprised by this is baffling.
