NTMAPHLP file error message

Just wanted to leave some feedback to possibly help others who encounter this error
message that "NTMAPHLP is missing" when you try to use a Flash Drive. After recently
having to reinstall my operating system, my ACP-EP Flash Drive no longer worked and
I got this message that this above file is missing.
The solution is that you must install the driver on windows 98SE for a USB 2.0 Flash
drive to work. This is not necessary if you are using a more recent operating system
but is required for Windows 98SE. Now that raises the question, which driver to use?
You can install a generic driver from this below website that will enable you to
use a USB storage device on any Windows 98SE operating system.
http://www.technical-assistance.co.uk/kb/win98se-usb-mass-storage-drivers.php
The actual application will be called: nusb33e.exe
Click on the link within this page with the type:
Windows 98 SE Generic USB Mass Storage Device Drivers v3.3 - nusb33e.exe
Also to note, after installing the driver from this file and doing a restart, I had
to remove the device from the device manager in My Computer and do another restart
for the software to load and then my flashdrive appeared in my computer icon.
Hope this helps.

That one *has* been mentioned here many times

--but it's NOT the **best** one available.
Those laurels go to Nathan Lineback and his more extensive effort:

Folks who have used a proper OS (like FREE
Linux)
just laugh at the reboot, reboot, reboot nonsense Windoze users have to tolerate
due to the stupid Windows Registry.
You should ONLY **have** to reboot when you replace your OS kernel.

Hi Sisophous.
I've never got these drivers to work for me. I always use the default drivers that
come with the flash drive or can be downloaded from the manufactures web site.
I've had this discussion with gewg may times as I'm sure he will comment.

Keith managed to select devices that weren't high-profile enough
to have their USB ID numbers included in the generic/universal drivers.
Congratulations again on your discriminating taste, Keith.

Reading the packaging is always advised before handing over your cash.
When buying hardware, make sure the label **specifically** lists *YOUR* OS.
SUPPORT THOSE VENDORS WHO SUPPORT **YOU**
and stop giving your money to manufacturers that don't deserve it.
|or can be downloaded from the manufactures web site.
|
When using a >10 year old M$ OS,
it *is* important to do your homework ahead of time.
(Though Linux has the best out-of-the-box hardware support of **any** OS,
checking compatibility there is advised there as well.)
A modern OS (e.g. FREE Linux) will have an approved hardware list.
In addition, as the OP mentioned,
a modern OS doesn't have this (USB) hoop to jump through.
Since the OP stated that Maximus Decim's driver worked for him
and Keith didn't provide the names of the brands on which these WON'T work,
Keith's post is just noise (as is quite common for him).

Hello Keith,
This generic driver was provided to me by the tech folks at the ACP-EP website. I
could not download the driver for my device because the back packaging had three
possible drivers for my flashdrive to select from and yet not one had been checked
to tell me which is the correct match. Or, I could play trial by error and guess.
The lazy manufacturer didn't bother to indicate which driver works for my flashdrive
so the tech department led me to this generic driver. The ACP-EP website provides
up to five different drivers to download for the same exact product. Figure that
one out, I can't. It must be an American company.

I have stated these devices before but you have a short memory. I have 4 different
sizes of Kingston 256Kb, 500Kb, 1GB and 2GB and PQI 2GB. Each Kingston has its own
driver but the 2GB drivers will work with all the other drives.

Yes just the same as yourself.

Your post was NOT addressed to *me*.
If you are going to post this "data" again,
post the DATA POINTS again for the new recepient of the "data".
|I have 4 different sizes of Kingston 256Kb, 500Kb, 1GB and 2GB and PQI 2GB.
|
That wasn't so hard, now. Was it?
...and "byte(s) is abbreviated B (always capitalized);
b means bit(s)--a factor of 8 smaller.

It's a simple matter of
including the USB ID number of the chip manufacturer(s) in the lookup table.
There aren't _that_ many silicon forges fabricating these.
An end-vendor who does a CYA,
will second-source the components
and will include in his driver(s) any possible sources of chips he might use.
Given that, *why you can't get your devices to work with the universal drivers*
is just baffling.

|
Again, including at least one DATA POINT makes you look less like
a 4 year old with his thumbs in his ears and his fingers wiggling.
