The printer will not feed paper. either to make a copy or from the computer. It will say it is printing, and then stops and says that I should put paper in tray face down. So I do.. no luck..then I turn paper over.. and it does the same thing. I unplugged it for a while, didn't help. What is next?

It could be that the printer is simply in need of repair/replacement.

What is within *your* power to do is to
go into Control Panel and Remove the existing device driver for that peripheral
then reinstall the driver and reboot the computer.

You need the disk that came with the printer--or even better,
go to the manufacturer's site and get the most recent version of their W98 driver.

Sensor issues.. The printer is bad generally.. Contact HP, but if out of warranty,
it is more expensive to repair than replace, if it can be repaired. Just depends
on how old it is..

Check HP's website for troubleshooting procedures if you don't have the manual..

Unplug it and turn it upside down to see if a pencil or a paperclip fell in the chute. Look very carefully for any obstruction, like a little crumpled piece of paper or a label stcuck to a roller or a staple.
