You haven't noted if it EVER worked.
Having the *hardware* plugged into your system
only gets you half the way there.
The 2nd half is making sure the operating system can use it.
**What Is A Device Driver?**
cache of http://www.karlsforums.com/faq/faq_devicedriver.htm
If the driver exists in Device Manager
(especially if it has a yellow mark next to it), Remove it.
Reboot the system and Windoze will nag you to install the device driver.
Use the disk that came with the hardware
or (better yet) go to the manufacturer's website
and get *the latest* Windows 98 driver available for that model.
If you paid for hardware that didn't SPECIFICALLY say it supports Win9x,
buy something that does.

Ok it's an Creative Modem Blaster\ DI5630/DI5631/DI5633. It has all three model
numbers listed on it's label. I had it working but did an system restore for the
computer and now I get the error that PCI Communication Device has a mark beside
it in device listing . I don't have the disk for the modem and Creative no longer
supports this product. So the real question now is how in the old days when this
happen could you find the drivers on the internet not including the developers'site?
I know somewhere on here there's a real driver infor page, not a downloadable paid
device to upgrade drivers . So anyone got a clue to really find the drivers anymore?

When I need a driver I Google for it. I include the product name and model number
in the search. The drivers are out there if you have the patience to look for them.
I am never satisfied until I compare drivers from a few different sources, you are
likely to find different versions on offer. It is true that a lot of so-called driver
download sites are all about downloading and installing some third party app supposedly
to scan your system. I don't trust them.
If there is a single website offering a comprehensive collection of drivers for old
hardware and old OS's for free I don't know about it.
See if this suits your purposes.
http://www.opendrivers.com/driver/213134/creative-modem-blaster-v.92-di5631-driver-win98-free-download.html
Once I entered the code and was taken to the download page I found the Official Driver
Download links dead. A little lower down the links to the backup servers were good.
Finding these drivers took about two minutes. You could no doubt come up with a few
other places to download drivers for your modem if you spent maybe half an hour.

Hi William.
I've just done a search on DriverGuide
and they have drivers for all of those serial numbers for your modem. You have to
be a member to download them but thats no problem you don't get any emails or spam
of them.

Your explanation is ambiguous, but if you mean you used the System Restore option
in Windows - which was only introduced with Windows ME - then you posted in the wrong
forum. This one is for Windows 98. You can get help with the Windows System Restore
command in the Windows ME forum.
It's dangerous to use the System Restore option in Windows ME.
If you use it, you will LOSE all the work you've done since the last Restore point
was created, and all the files you've created, modified or downloaded since then.

Thanks Ed! Iam sorry, I did the restore from a restore cd that came along with
the Emachines 443i. That's why I got in trouble, I did'nt create a disk to save
all the stuff that was already installed before I did the restore cd. So now Iam
trying to get that worked out, plus I still have yet to try the site that Arminius
supplied, so Iam off to do that right now. But the modem is a creative modem blaster
/ DI5630/DI5631/DI5633, and it worked fine before, Iam learning these things the
hard way, mistakes first then repair my mistakes.
