Started with an Msdrv problem but now it's much more

Hi guys,

My msdrv error is gone now that I've reloaded windows, but I'm still unable to get
on the Internet. Here is what I've tested:

The cable people can see my modem, but not my network card.
I’ve physically, (and from device manager) removed my network card and reinstalled.
I’ve pinged the loopback address to test the NIC (10ms okay)
I’ve pinged my IP address (10ms okay)
I can’t ping my DNS because it is disabled. (That is at the request of the cable
people)

The cable people are now saying that the Internet won’t work because I have low system
resources (54%)

Is this true, and how can I bring that up to the 85% that they want?

Thanks
Brad

you should still be able to ping the dns, even you have them disabled,,, the only
reason you are not able to ping them is you are not conected,,

to lower you system resorses,,
goto start>run>MSCONFIG
click the tab for startup group items,,
uncheck what you dont need,,, or want,,
you should not get rid of systray,, you can but should not,,
and you should not get rid of,,,scan registry,
that should bring you up to the high 80's or low 90's
then whne your internet dont work they have to find the real problem....

Good point! My resources run in the 50's all the time.

i do internet tech support for adsl and dialup,, i dont know to much about cable
but i am sure it is the same a adsl,, or dang close...
system resources have some to do with it,, but i have never seen it be the problem
that is making you not find your dns's the problem is going to be in the nic,,, either
with the tcp/ip stack,, you might want to reinstall every thing in the network settings,,
the nic,,
or the cable modem,,, or some files that are asicociated with the network settings,,(you
might want to unistall dial up networking,, i have seen that help fix dsl not working,,,

On a technical note...if he reports ping responses from his loopback and IP address there isn't likely anything wrong with his NIC. Where I live the ADSL guys have you statically assign IP address, Default Gateway, Subnet Mask, and DNS....the cablemodem people don't. Every cable connected PC I've worked on here has Dynamic assignation of all the above. Perhaps his setup is also Statically assigned.......I didn't see it mentioned at all. I would check on that and see if it is indeed static and if so, it's likely an incorrect setting.
