No mater what i open, (.exe files) the program not found box comes up and tells me that windows can't find cnrwghlcdfjse.exe i refered to your section on the problem about openeing up .exe files and downloaded the 07-102 patch but it did not work. You are right that i can open other files such as .doc but not direct .exe files Please help as i don't know what to do. I have tried everything to my knowledge but i have to refer to those who know what they are doing.

Do you have antivirus software installed? Have you tried any of the links in Article 07-102?

Hi again,

I've inspected the fix in Article 07-102, and have discovered a problem with the 07-102.inf file. The file has been updated, and it should work now. Try it out!

There is a possibility that your PC is infected by a virus. Can you run scandisk or defrag? If not, that is probably your problem. I have come across this a few times.

Sounds like you have w32sircam virus that I have seen at least 12 times in the last couple of weeks. Boot with a startup disk and reinstall windows. Get current virus dat files right away. I have also received this from people I do not know and Norton Antivirus stops it. But only with the current dat files.

It shouldn't be necessary to do any of that. Just follow the directions here: Article 07-102.

the magistrA virus renames all your .exe and .scr files. so it makes it so nothing works.

I have the same problem. Unfortunately, after I right-click to install, I get a familiar message: Cannot find rundll32.exe. In other words, I'm unable to install.

Hi, I work for tech support for a BIG company. and one cust call me for the same issue that you are having. I researched a little for this and i found this tool that maybe is going to work. (Works with my customer!!!) http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/tool.to.reset.shellopencommand.registry.keys.html . If you can't go directly to the link, you can open www.symantec.com Check to the left for the part that says something about "Download Virus Removal Tool" then go to the one that says "Tool to reset shellopencommand registry keys" All the info must be there.

can't open any .exe, this fixed my win2k
Thursday, September 23, 2004 at 10:00 pm
Posted by KDB (1 messages posted)

My win2k had this problem. I was trying to work on something else, which led me to open the "Tools -> Folder Options" under the file browser. Then I selected "File Types" and "new" and added 'exe'. Then I deleted the file type 'exe', that was a Bad move. I knew that I had broken it myself and it wasn't a virus or something like that. Well, then I couldn't open any exe files from anywhere, even from start->run. I couldn't open regedit, an editor, or even ie. I got on another similar computer, opened regedit and some tools I needed, then saved the registry, and then broke that one too the same way I did on the first one. Then I exported the registry again from regedit and compared them. I found that the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\.exe was missing altogether. So I created it and gave the default value 'exefile' which is the way it was before I removed the key. Then everything worked again.

On the first machine that was broken, I couldn't run regedit, so I right clicked a file on the desktop and selected open-with notepad. This gave me an editor, then I deleted the contents and put regedit.exe in the file and saved it as regedit.bat back onto the desktop. When I clicked on it, it ran regedit for me. Then I added the key and value above, and fixed that computer also.

.exe files not working.

I see all of you people posting about .exe files not working... i for one have the similar problem in a way. When i download or click any .exe file it doesn't let me load... the icon does not show up it is a blank paper icon. Now i tried to solution from the webmaster who posted above a while ago and it did not work. I downloaded the file i installed it... all was well but than it said, "Windows can not find the file". It gave me 2 options i could find the program to load it manually.. nothing. The other option was to let windows do it. So i did... nothing. I do not want to go through the problem of rebooting or anything like that. I would like to have the solution to be the way the webmaster has shown it. But only if it worked. Please help me out. -Kyle

jose801, you should have posted a new message on this forum. This thread you responded
in is several yrs. old.

If your .EXE (executable) files aren't working, you likely have a malware infection.
Therefore, you need to run some malware scans, and possibly get help on a malware
support forum.

First, download the EXEfix08 file from the menu at this link. It'll restore the standard
'EXE' information into the Windows Registry.

For further help, register and post on this forum. Good luck, and same to anyone
