When using Scan Disk or Defrag - I cannot get it to complete the task - I use maintenance wizard to schedule these tasks

I was having the same problem and it was my antivirus program. I disabled it and then scan was ok. Don't know if this will help or not, but that was my problem. CJ

You probably have a program writing to the hard drive. Hit cntrl, alt, delete and endtask on all but explorer. This should eliminate any restarts and alow you to complete your defrag.

To my amazement, two of my systems had all sorts of wierd file corruptions, and when I pulled one apart for something else, found that the cooler on the processor wasn't turning, a big ugly dust bunny was the culprit..with that in mind, I found that machine two had the cooler fan UNPLUGGED..... sheesh! I guess the cooling vanes kept enough heat away with case fan ventilation to prevent frying stuff. gotta keep a cool head about you

Could cause is that you have a trojan somewhere on your machine.Run trojan test and if it finds one then try running scan again I bet it will work. I cannot get it to complete the task - I use maintenance wizard to schedule these tasks
