I have a listing in my "open with" menu that is NOT a program, but is a now-deleted temp. file that was installed automatically from an unreputable website. I removed the references to the file in the registry, but it is still there. Any ideas?

Remove it from your ODBC data sources in the control panel, this will take it out of the "open with" selections

To remove programs from the openwith... list in windows 2000 you open the registry and navigate to the key "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts". There you will find a list of extensions go to the extension where you want to alter the "openwith..." from and select "openWithList" (duh :-) ). You will find the list of programs for that extension and a string that's called "MRUList" this is the "Most Recently Used List" which lists the order of programs, so beware that if you change something that 1) this list still matches the rest and 2) the programs named a, b, c, and so on start with a and the rest remains sequential without gaps. It's a bit cryptic but if you see it you'll know what i mean.

I had a Compac Presario 2285v Free-Pc. After I used it for one year I delete the ad. banners and Free-Pc logo from my window according to the directions given by the company. Last week I had to run the Quick Restore disc to clean up my hard disc. That brought up the Free-Pc banners and logo on the screen again. There is an open box in the center of the screen that I am unable to remove. Could anyone tell me how to get rid of this? I couldn't do it by going to the control panel and clicking it from the add/remove programs. I got the message that it is a window's program and cannot be deleted. I have window 98. Thanks Nhabeeb@aol.com
