Search google for docmem and memtest. Both are free. docmem actually creates a boot disk that runs the program, so you don't need to be able to get into Windows (or whatever) on the machine that has the problem.

I have just found a site where you can download a 15 day trial of the program CheckIt 
version 5. It has alot more testing features, such as motherboards, modems, etc.

I, being the most un-userfriendly person on the web have to send this address for all to check out their memory problems ,for fee limited period only at this address.......follow on screen for detaits.....Simmtester.com
