Some USB devices will prevent Windows from shutting down. I have a Lexar smart media
reader (USB). When I forget and leave it plugged in on shutdown, my computer won't
shutdown. If I unplug it before trying to shutdown, no problems.
Also take a look at this article: Q202633

Thanks a lot!!!!!
I will check the 'bug' one by one based on this information. Cool! Because I've already
got tired with this problem. Once again, thank you!
Have a nice day!

There are 2 shutdown fixes for Win98 on the page
http://www.microsoft.com/windows98/downloads/corporate.asp
One if you have a few mapped network drives,
and the other for various issues preventing shutdown.
Another suggestion that works for me - is to goto Add/Remove programs, Windows Components,
and turn off Web Tools (esp Personal Web Server).

Hi Budi.
I 'm not sure if you have got over the shut down problem,but this solution worked
for me.
Do a file search for "lowgow.sys" right click on it and rename it "lowgo.old",this
removes the shut down splash screen,and the system shuts down every time.
If you have time let me know how you get on,or if you found another solution please
let me know.

My windows 98SE hangs up, not ever completely shutting down. I have downloaded the
so-called fix but the problem continues. I'm wondering if I might need more ram;
I have 64 ram but supposedly I have 60% free space. What should I do?

I was looking through Microsoft's site for problems with shutdown on ME. Microsoft
is usually blaming either USB devices, external storage devices, or incorrect driver
info. If you have USB devices plugged in, unplug them before shutdown. If you have
recently updated or installed drivers, check into that and make sure all's well there.
I don't know if this info will help anyone or not. But it is some info.
here's where I was looking for ME shutdown problems

Go to start run-type msconfig-
on the startup tab delete any duplicate items. This should fix your problem.
