That's what is supposed to happen with solution #3. If you want to pick and choose
which Control Panel icons are shown, use solution #1.

1. When I point to programs in the start menu I get all the items in the control
panel...the programs no longer appear and thats NOT what is supposed to happen.
2. I did create a folder in the start menu above programs called control panel and
when I point to it I also get all the items in the control panel.

Are you saying that adding a Control Panel folder to your Start Menu folder, as described
in the article, made the Programs menu disappear?

sounds like the programs menu didnt disappear, but now shows the control panel applets
instead of reflecting c:\windows\start menu\programs\. odd...
