I have a question about Do
I still need CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT?:
If I make my autoexec.bat file blank will my computer boot up as normal or do I
need to type in set path=%path%;c:\ progra~1\networ~1\mcafee~1

Win98 allows both to be blank without any problems.

Windows does not need autoexec.bat or config.sys, but, you may have a program, Mcafee,
that calls an ms-dos program to scan before boot to windows.
If you need to run a dos app before Windows boots, it's usually called for in autoexec.bat.
Look in your config.sys and you'll probably see some things "rem" out. This config.sys
can be deleted.
Good luck.

A slight twist on this thread that has me baffled. In the course of troubleshooting
my slow Windows 98 boot-up, I ran MSCONFIG to have a look at the autoexec.bat file
for clues. All I can see (even after completely reloading the Windows 98 O/S), is
"@echo off" followed by the expected column of "check boxes." However, the text
lines describing the actions associated with each of the checked boxes are completely
blank--missing. Something's happening, but I can't tell what. Any ideas? Thanks.
