Steve, this is really not a Windows ME question, so you should be taking it elsewhere,
but if you crank up your Internet Security settings you will prevent this sort of
problem. Oh yeah, and make sure your IE version is 5.5 or higher and updated (at
the microsoft website) with the latest security patches. Also, it tends to be only
porn and warez sites that change your homepage without your permission, so you can
either avoid these kinds of sites or do the following: make a note of the ones that
do this and add them to the "Restricted Sites" zone in your Internet Security options.
Another tip: if you want your homepage to load fast, load it up, then choose "Save
As..." from the File menu. Go to the C:\PROGRAM FILES\INTERNET EXPLORER folder,
and type homepage as the filename. Make sure "Web Page, Complete" is selected as
the file type. Click OK, then go to Tools|Internet Options|General and type C:\PROGRAM
FILES\INTERNET EXPLORER\homepage.htm as your homepage, and click OK. You will now
typically save 10-30 seconds every time you start IE or press the home page button!
