Microsoft went to great lengths to hide DOS from users, but it is still there in 
ME. Also, there is a great deal of hardware that didn't have decent drivers written 
for ME.

Basically, ME is stuck in the middle - trying not to be DOS, and not succeeding in 
being an NT-based OS. If you want to play DOS games, switch to 98 - it's more stable 
and has more drivers written for it.
