There are a LOT of possibilities when it comes to not shutting down properly. First
of all if you have an IDE HDD then you MUST use the shut-down fix on the windowws
up-date site: Windows Update
To shut down your tower you need to HOLD the stop button in for at least five seconds.
One of the main problems is that, if you are using a DSL, "net drag prevents the
DSL from shutting down so pull its plug out first.
There is a registry edit to help unload DLL's which can help but try the other three
first and post back to this thread.
Then there is the possibility of spyware preventing your shut-down and as you are
connected to the internet you SHOULD be using something like Norton Internet Security
2002 v 4.0 with a firewall. But run these anti-spyware freeware programs and see
what they find for you. I use ALL three:
AdAware & SpyBot
Click on English flag. This is a very interesting program and very revealing.
