I find that ME works MUCH better with it switched off and the _RESTORE file deleted.

I just use the Windows Start-Up diskette (bootdisk) and C:\scanreg /restore.

The problem is that system restore writes fixed files all over the place and this 
makes a mess of scanning and defragging as it is also running in safe mode.

You can set the _RESTORE file to zero length, read-only and system if you want to.
