Keep it! If you run it before you install any new software, you can go
back to where it was running ok. A lot of software and drivers that are
suppose to be ME compatible are not and cause problems. I have been
running ME for almost 2 years and have not had to do a reinstall of the
OS. System Restore saves a lot of time when you have a crash from
a new program or driver.
It does not remove the program or driver. Using the Registry to restore
also does not remove the program or driver.
The procedure is to remove the problem program or driver and then
run System Restore.
Also NEVER install a program that does not have a uninstall program
with it. It suggest the vender did half a job or does not want his program
uninstalled even if it does not work.
You should also run some form of backup of anything that you created.
This should not be on the HD but removable media. This way if the HD
crashes, you don't lose your work.
