Hi Tom,
OK then lets try another approach: Find the folder that you want to display thumbnails and open it in an Explorer window. Now click Tools > Folder Options... > View. Now click Reset All Folders. Close the Folder Options window and change the view to thumbnails. Close the explorer and restart the computer. Check if that keeps the thumbnail view.
