incomeing phone call hangs up pc

On my Windows ME (Emachine pc) when my telephone rings it locks up my pc and I have
to ctrl-alt-del to reboot. My phone line in from the wall to the pc phone line and
from the out to a Brother MFC 1750 (fax, copier, scanner, phone). The pc locks up
but the phone will work on incoming calls..
Does anyone have any info on a fix????
