Rich, That was a very frustrating issue for me as well. The Windows Help tells you
to do just what you say you did. The easiest procedure I have discovered is to run
"msconfig" from the Start / Run menu. The System Configuration Utility window appears.
On the General tab, click on the Advanced button. Click on Enable Startup Menu
to select it. No other items need be changed. When you click OK, you can reboot.
All this will do is, upon rebooting, give you a screen that allows you to choose
to launch into the Safe Mode, among other options. If you like always having this
option, no other actions are necessary. To turn off this options screen so Windows
will automatically launch in the normal mode, re-run msconfig, follow the same steps
above and unselect Enable Startup Menu. Brian
