Improving System Resources in '95, '98, ME, 2000, XP.
Windows Explorer has a bad habit of keeping ALL of the DLLs in use in
memory.
For Windows '95, '98, Millennium Edition, 2000 & XP you can force the
operating system to unload them when they are no longer in use.
Open Regedit then go to:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer]
Right-click in the right-hand window and create a new "value DWORD" with the
name of: AlwaysUnloadDll , and give it the value of: 1.
This change does not apply to older 16 bit DLLs. Some programs may give an
invalid page fault message, or crash the system.
To turn it off: delete the AlwaysUnloadDll entry.
If you do not have any errors, this setting speeds up operation, freeing
RAM and returning it to the system.
Close the Registry Editor, and restart Windows to effect the change.
