First check in the programs themselves that are in your startup list. Then check 
the option there, if you can by doing  this:

Right-click on the icons in the tray area, open each, go through the options to turn 
off the "tray" or "run at startup" feature. 

Msconfig startup tab....  Leave Systray, Scan Registry, Load Power Profile (two), 
*StateMgr, your virus scanner and firewall if you have one. For info. on others check 
here......

Msconfig....Things safe to remove from startup:
