Start in safe mode. Disable system restore as follows DisableSystemRestore
Go to start run type: msconfig and press enter. In the start-up guide disable PCHealth,
SSDPSRV, and all references to system restore, press Clean and apply and re-start.
Open msconfig again to see if they have all been cleared.
Start-Up on bootdisk, get to the DOS prompt and type: A:\>DEL C:\_RESTORE and re-boot.
Make sure that the hideen files are un-hidden (Explorer, tools, folder options, files,
etc.) find the _RESTORE file and change the attributes to hidden, read-only and archive
so it remains at zereo bytes.
The ****** will probably re-appear at some stage as this is in the nature of BG at
MS , (stubborn!)
Un-Install PCHealth, delete the PCHealth sceduled task and run this line in the run
window to also remove Windows Help, msinfo32.exe and other useless junk:
rundll.exe setupx.dll,InstallHinfSection Uninstall 132 C:\WINDOWS\INF\PCHealth.inf
(Bonus! No more Help window in ... Safe Mode!) (Got to be a winner!)
Disable fast-find and delete, from DOS prompt type: A:\>format C: and install '98se.
(You lose everything and gain at the same time!) (Just KIDDING!) (Not really!)
Otherwise: RE-INSTALLING WINDOWS ME
PerformanceImprovement
AlwaysUnloadDll 9x/ME
NTFS/FAT
