I have an idea about How do I make the background of desktop icon text transparent?:

If you go into the appearence heading under display properties, you can change the color on an item called "desktop". It only effects anything behind a wallpaper image. And since the text of an icon is basicaly a hole in the wallpaper, this color is the background color of the text. While traspaerancy is out, you can force windows to match color using the custom color function. Good luck all
