Depends on which CAB files you are talking about. If it is the IE update cab files,
then you would not be able to Repair IE and it could cause problems with updates.
If you are talking about the CAB files in C:\Windows\Options\Install or ..\CABS,
then these are the system CAB files used to build Windows. Delete these and you can
not use the Add/Remove Programs - Windows Setup to add features or add new hardware,
without inserting an install CD. In addition, these CAB files are used by the system
to replace or fix critical system files when they are corrupted or incorrectly modified.
This happens in the background and you are not aware it is happening.
Applications CAB files may only be used for rebuild, but they could also be used
for configuration changes and even normal operation. They are also used when you
use the option to make a Startup disk.
So it is risky at best and can cause problems when you need them the most. I
have dumped CAB files to a CD and then removed them and then restored them when the
need for space was corrected. But it really depends on why you are bothered by them
and which specific ones you are talking about.
